Protecting Heritage

cropped-mcc-7609.jpgThe built heritage of the Ulster Canal features many iconic and beautiful structures, buildings and locks. Many of these have been hidden from view for years.

On the Monaghan Town Greenway we wanted to bring this built heritage back into public use, and the many bridges in particular create a stunning backdrop to our Greenway.

The Greenway passed by one of the original lock-houses along the canal, which had become vacant a number of years prior to our development. Monaghan County Council worked with Monaghan Tidy Towns to develop a biodiversity project at the lock-house – find out more here.
